| Bio: | Character Info; Source work, author and character: StarCraft; Sarah Louise Kerrigan/the Queen of Blades Journal name: Name: Alexander Sharpe Age: 36 Played By: James Purefoy Apartment complex and unit: Bathos 806 How long have they been in the human world?: Newly arrived. Two weeks give or take. Source of income: Currently job-hunting; was previously a Senior Analyst at a private security firm. Personality: Once Alexander gets out of his shell and finds his powers, he will come to realise his true self - highly intelligent, cunning, a deceptive smile that says 'I know it all but I'm not going to share any of it with you' - Alexander is articulate in his writing but coarse in his speech, able to shift from eloquence to asininity with a blink and a smile. It helps him connect with people from different walks of life - he might be kind enough to kneel in front of a homeless man on the street and give him money, but he really thinks that the world would be a better place if they could clean up the streets and, while they're at it, why not kill off everyone with an IQ below 115? It would certainly reduce demand on limited global resources - no one said quick fixes would be any worse than a fifty-year plan. He sees patterns. He is one of those chess players who never really like to show his face, and he has a very fixed utilitarian view of the world. He can hear the gears grinding in the capitalist machine, he can see where the politicians are headed, he knows - sometimes he is not entirely aware of just how much he knows, and perhaps that is for his own good. Ambitious, some might say he is the 'attitude problem' type, just a little short of arrogant but he certainly is confident and secure. He is not getting any younger but he knows he is destined, if destiny was a believable concept, for something bigger than sitting behind a desk. The work is enjoyable, of course, but he has been doing the same thing for too long to find it challenging, stuck in the same routine day in and day out, and he can feel himself sinking into the quicksand everyone is too quick to dismiss as 'life'. He can be a risk-taker - what is 'life' without a bit of unpredictability; a break from the pattern? There is a definitive line separating the public from the private - he can come across as the serious worker who regularly stays on overtime, but that does not necessarily mean that he did not go out to pubs to drink, or play no-limits poker, or visit a strip club or three - after all he is neither compulsive nor impulsive, and it is only a weakness if someone can use it against him; so far he has yet to receive any threats or blackmail photos concealed in brown envelopes. There is an absence of a significant other in his life - love is a nice concept, but it is not one he indulged in. Fantasies for the youth in summer, reassurances for the elderly in winter; he is neither young nor old, and he has yet to find someone whom he is willing to commit to. You can never be too old to start anything new. New love, new life, new world - perhaps the 'why not?' attitude is what got him here. But for now, he is none of these. He is skeptical and cynical, dislikes change and he might be unhappy with where he is at but he'd rather drown all of that out with a few beers as opposed to wanting to do anything about it. History: Nothing stands out in Alexander's life. No abuse history, no childhood trauma, no early loss of a parent, no substance abuse in the home, nothing. One could say it was a very mundane existence. He was the only child to Michael and Louise Sharpe, both academics at Harvard, and they paid for his education all the way through to graduation from, surprise surprise, Harvard University, where he studied Engineering and Law. He was quite introverted as a child - still is to this day in a different way, and perhaps for different reasons - and had little friends. He was 'gifted' from the beginning - more intelligent than peers of his age, had a boundless curiosity and asked questions from why the sky was blue to ethics and morality, religion, life and death. He seemed to excel at everything he put his mind to, and because of his academic performance and inclination toward the piano, no one pushed him to be more sociable. Family friends said it was 'in the genes', and he had done nothing but made his parents proud. He managed to get a job with the Department of Defence after he finished his postgraduate studies - he had considered pursuing academia, and he was just the type of person who would do well at anything he chose to contend with, but the academic life was... it was something he could do a decade or three down the line, but not right now. It has been a few years since he last got in contact with his parents. They were the type to bury their heads in books and journal articles, nonresponsive to anything unless you happened to spill coffee on their pages, but they were happily married and Alexander could ask for nothing more. Perhaps that was why he sought something different. Something has to make this boring, meaningless existence become worthwhile. He thinks he will find it by leaving Musings - what he considers to be the riskiest move in his life is something he has pondered on for a long time, but some things are easier to do on a whim than trying to calculate and predict every possible outcome of his decision. Ability/Powers: He will gradually realise he has some level of telekinesis, or an ability to move physical matter with his mind without touching it. Initially it only gets triggered in situations of high stress or anxiety, anger, depression, etc. (essentially any strong mood state) It does take a lot of training and practice to get it working the way he wants to though, and it is physically taxing - exhausting when it does unpredictable things. In general, even after he becomes accustomed to his newfound power, it is not something he will be using often. How they came to be in the human world: Alex is looking for something more. Something more to life than just the day-in-day-out cycles. He has considered leaving Musings for at least a year, but it was only two weeks ago that he packed his bags, settled his documentation and walked through that door. Purpose: Neutral more so than anything else, especially having been around for only a couple of weeks. He did not come over to induce hubris or enact any plans of global domination. Whether his alignment will change in the future or not is another matter entirely, and not something he can predict at this stage. Future Plans: Despite being on a search for meaning and novelty in life, it is likely that Alexander will fall back into the same patterns - at least initially. Everyone needs money and he is more than qualified to get a job. After he has secured his finances, perhaps he can venture out and do something else. Source conflict: The main one in StarCraft is Jim Raynor, the protagonist seeking to find Kerrigan (they are romantically involved in the backstory - she is presumed dead but has actually been infested by the Zerg. He ends up trying to save her, turning her back into a Terran/human). The Queen of Blades is power-hungry and destructive in general, and wants to take over the Zerg Overlord and destroy the Protoss and Terran in the process, working her way toward global domination. Disclaimer; I am not James Purefoy. Starcraft belongs to Blizzard Entertainment. | ||||||||||
